Can a Winnebago EKKO tow a Jeep Wrangler?

Possibly—but not every EKKO and Wrangler combination works. A 5,000-pound receiver label is only one part of the calculation.

Begin with the EKKO’s remaining combined capacity

Record the exact EKKO’s GCWR and weigh the coach with passengers, fuel, water, food, bikes, and normal trip cargo. Subtract that scale weight from GCWR. The result must be compared with the receiver rating; the lower number is the preliminary towing ceiling.

Use the Wrangler’s actual weight

Two-door, four-door, 4xe, Rubicon, 392, accessories, larger tires, winches, armor, and cargo can materially change weight. Do not rely on a generic curb-weight search result when a scale measurement is available.

Confirm recreational-towing approval

Follow the Jeep owner’s manual for the exact model year, drivetrain, transfer case, and procedure. A baseplate, compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking are commonly needed. Never assume every Wrangler configuration can be flat towed.

When the numbers are too close

If the loaded EKKO plus the actual Wrangler approaches GCWR or the Jeep approaches the receiver limit, reduce coach load, choose a lighter approved towed vehicle, or use a higher-capacity motorhome. A full car trailer generally adds too much weight and tongue load for a close combination.

Common questions

Can a Winnebago EKKO tow a Jeep Wrangler? FAQ

Can a Winnebago EKKO flat tow a Jeep Wrangler?

It may be possible when the exact Wrangler is approved for recreational towing and its actual loaded weight remains within both the EKKO's hitch rating and GCWR-based remaining capacity. The lower verified limit controls.

Is a 5,000-pound EKKO hitch the same as 5,000 pounds of available towing capacity?

No. Available towing capacity can be lower after subtracting the loaded motorhome weight from GCWR. Compare that result with the hitch rating and use the lower number.

Should I use Wrangler curb weight for this calculation?

Use an actual scale weight when possible, including fuel, accessories, cargo, baseplate, and other installed equipment. A generic curb-weight figure may understate the weight rolling behind the EKKO.
